Bathrooms are a nightmare for heating gear. You’ve got heavy steam, splashing water, and the need for a blast of heat that actually works the second you step out of the shower. But there’s a catch: most high-powered infrared lamps are blinding. We wanted to fix that. We wanted a heater that gets the job done without feeling like you’re staring into a stadium floodlight.
Fixing the Glare
Standard infrared lamps throw out a wide spectrum of light. It’s harsh. If you’ve got kids or babies in the house, that kind of glare is a real concern for their developing eyes. So, we tweaked things. We used a specific mix of quartz and some internal coatings to filter out that aggressive white light. Instead, we push the energy into the long-wave infrared band. The result? You still feel that deep, cozy warmth, but the light stays soft. No more squinting while you dry off.
Dealing with the Water
Since this is a bathroom, water is going to happen. That’s why we went with an IPX5 rating. In plain English: you can spray this thing from pretty much any angle and it won’t short out. We used high-temp silicone gaskets and reinforced glass to seal everything tight. Inside, we use halogen-filled quartz tubes. We chose quartz because it can handle “thermal shock.” You know, when you flick the switch on and off repeatedly? Quartz won’t crack under that pressure.
The Honest Trade-off
Look, nothing is perfect. When you filter out the light to save your eyes, you lose a tiny bit of raw power. You might notice a 5-10% dip in how fast the heat penetrates compared to a raw, uncoated lamp. But honestly? It’s a trade-off worth making for the sake of safety. One quick tip for the install: make sure your ballast matches the wattage of the filtered tube. Don’t try to “over-drive” the lamp to make up for that lost 5%. If you push too much power through, you’ll just fry the filament and burn out the quartz way too soon.
